Tafsir of verse (20) from Surah Ash-Shuara

﴿ قالَ فَعَلتُها إِذًا وَأَنا۠ مِنَ الضّالّينَ ﴾

[Moses] said, "I did it, then, while I was of those astray [i.e., ignorant].

Tafsir of verse (21) from Surah Ash-Shuara

﴿ فَفَرَرتُ مِنكُم لَمّا خِفتُكُم فَوَهَبَ لى رَبّى حُكمًا وَجَعَلَنى مِنَ المُرسَلينَ ﴾

So I fled from you when I feared you. Then my Lord granted me judgement [i.e., wisdom and prophet hood] and appointed me [as one] of the messengers.

Tafsir of verse (22) from Surah Ash-Shuara

﴿ وَتِلكَ نِعمَةٌ تَمُنُّها عَلَىَّ أَن عَبَّدتَ بَنى إِسرٰءيلَ ﴾

And is this a favor of which you remind me – that you have enslaved the Children of Israel?"

Tafsir of verse (23) from Surah Ash-Shuara

﴿ قالَ فِرعَونُ وَما رَبُّ العٰلَمينَ ﴾

Said Pharaoh, "And what is the Lord of the worlds?"

Tafsir of verse (24) from Surah Ash-Shuara

﴿ قالَ رَبُّ السَّمٰوٰتِ وَالأَرضِ وَما بَينَهُما ۖ إِن كُنتُم موقِنينَ ﴾

[Moses] said, "The Lord of the heavens and earth and that between them, if you should be convinced."

Tafsir of verse (25) from Surah Ash-Shuara

﴿ قالَ لِمَن حَولَهُ أَلا تَستَمِعونَ ﴾

[Pharaoh] said to those around him, "Do you not hear?"

Tafsir of verse (26) from Surah Ash-Shuara

﴿ قالَ رَبُّكُم وَرَبُّ ءابائِكُمُ الأَوَّلينَ ﴾

[Moses] said, "Your Lord and the Lord of your first forefathers."

Tafsir of verse (27) from Surah Ash-Shuara

﴿ قالَ إِنَّ رَسولَكُمُ الَّذى أُرسِلَ إِلَيكُم لَمَجنونٌ ﴾

[Pharaoh] said, "Indeed, your 'messenger' who has been sent to you is mad."

Tafsir of verse (28) from Surah Ash-Shuara

﴿ قالَ رَبُّ المَشرِقِ وَالمَغرِبِ وَما بَينَهُما ۖ إِن كُنتُم تَعقِلونَ ﴾

[Moses] said, "Lord of the east and the west and that between them, if you were to reason."

Tafsir of verse (29) from Surah Ash-Shuara

﴿ قالَ لَئِنِ اتَّخَذتَ إِلٰهًا غَيرى لَأَجعَلَنَّكَ مِنَ المَسجونينَ ﴾

[Pharaoh] said, "If you take a god other than me, I will surely place you among those imprisoned."

Tafsir of verse (30) from Surah Ash-Shuara

﴿ قالَ أَوَلَو جِئتُكَ بِشَيءٍ مُبينٍ ﴾

[Moses] said, "Even if I brought you something [i.e., proof] manifest?"

Tafsir of verse (31) from Surah Ash-Shuara

﴿ قالَ فَأتِ بِهِ إِن كُنتَ مِنَ الصّٰدِقينَ ﴾

[Pharaoh] said, "Then bring it, if you should be of the truthful."

Tafsir of verse (32) from Surah Ash-Shuara

﴿ فَأَلقىٰ عَصاهُ فَإِذا هِىَ ثُعبانٌ مُبينٌ ﴾

So [Moses] threw his staff, and suddenly it was a serpent manifest.

Tafsir of verse (33) from Surah Ash-Shuara

﴿ وَنَزَعَ يَدَهُ فَإِذا هِىَ بَيضاءُ لِلنّٰظِرينَ ﴾

And he drew out his hand; thereupon it was white for the observers.

Tafsir of verse (34) from Surah Ash-Shuara

﴿ قالَ لِلمَلَإِ حَولَهُ إِنَّ هٰذا لَسٰحِرٌ عَليمٌ ﴾

[Pharaoh] said to the eminent ones around him, "Indeed, this is a learned magician.

Tafsir of verse (35) from Surah Ash-Shuara

﴿ يُريدُ أَن يُخرِجَكُم مِن أَرضِكُم بِسِحرِهِ فَماذا تَأمُرونَ ﴾

He wants to drive you out of your land by his magic, so what do you advise?"

Tafsir of verse (36) from Surah Ash-Shuara

﴿ قالوا أَرجِه وَأَخاهُ وَابعَث فِى المَدائِنِ حٰشِرينَ ﴾

They said, "Postpone [the matter of] him and his brother and send among the cities gatherers.

Tafsir of verse (37) from Surah Ash-Shuara

﴿ يَأتوكَ بِكُلِّ سَحّارٍ عَليمٍ ﴾

Who will bring you every learned, skilled magician."

Tafsir of verse (38) from Surah Ash-Shuara

﴿ فَجُمِعَ السَّحَرَةُ لِميقٰتِ يَومٍ مَعلومٍ ﴾

So the magicians were assembled for the appointment of a well-known day.

Tafsir of verse (39) from Surah Ash-Shuara

﴿ وَقيلَ لِلنّاسِ هَل أَنتُم مُجتَمِعونَ ﴾

And it was said to the people, "Will you congregate.
