Tafsir of verse (1) from Surah Al-Hijr
﴿ الر ۚ تِلكَ ءايٰتُ الكِتٰبِ وَقُرءانٍ مُبينٍ ﴾
Alif, Lam, Raa. These are the verses of the Book and a clear Quran [i.e., recitation].
Tafsir of verse (2) from Surah Al-Hijr
﴿ رُبَما يَوَدُّ الَّذينَ كَفَروا لَو كانوا مُسلِمينَ ﴾
Perhaps those who disbelieve will wish that they had been Muslims.
Tafsir of verse (3) from Surah Al-Hijr
﴿ ذَرهُم يَأكُلوا وَيَتَمَتَّعوا وَيُلهِهِمُ الأَمَلُ ۖ فَسَوفَ يَعلَمونَ ﴾
Let them eat and enjoy themselves and be diverted by [false] hope, for they are going to know.
Tafsir of verse (4) from Surah Al-Hijr
﴿ وَما أَهلَكنا مِن قَريَةٍ إِلّا وَلَها كِتابٌ مَعلومٌ ﴾
And We did not destroy any city but that for it was a known decree.
Tafsir of verse (5) from Surah Al-Hijr
﴿ ما تَسبِقُ مِن أُمَّةٍ أَجَلَها وَما يَستَـٔخِرونَ ﴾
No nation will precede its term, nor will they remain thereafter.
Tafsir of verse (6) from Surah Al-Hijr
﴿ وَقالوا يٰأَيُّهَا الَّذى نُزِّلَ عَلَيهِ الذِّكرُ إِنَّكَ لَمَجنونٌ ﴾
And they say, "O you upon whom the message has been sent down, indeed you are mad.
Tafsir of verse (7) from Surah Al-Hijr
﴿ لَو ما تَأتينا بِالمَلٰئِكَةِ إِن كُنتَ مِنَ الصّٰدِقينَ ﴾
Why do you not bring us the angels, if you should be among the truthful?"
Tafsir of verse (8) from Surah Al-Hijr
﴿ ما نُنَزِّلُ المَلٰئِكَةَ إِلّا بِالحَقِّ وَما كانوا إِذًا مُنظَرينَ ﴾
We do not send down the angels except with truth; and they [i.e., the disbelievers] would not then be reprieved.
Tafsir of verse (9) from Surah Al-Hijr
﴿ إِنّا نَحنُ نَزَّلنَا الذِّكرَ وَإِنّا لَهُ لَحٰفِظونَ ﴾
Indeed, it is We who sent down the message [i.e., the Quran], and indeed, We will be its guardian.
Tafsir of verse (10) from Surah Al-Hijr
﴿ وَلَقَد أَرسَلنا مِن قَبلِكَ فى شِيَعِ الأَوَّلينَ ﴾
And We had certainly sent [messengers] before you, [O Muhammad], among the sects of the former peoples.
Tafsir of verse (11) from Surah Al-Hijr
﴿ وَما يَأتيهِم مِن رَسولٍ إِلّا كانوا بِهِ يَستَهزِءونَ ﴾
And no messenger would come to them except that they ridiculed him.
Tafsir of verse (12) from Surah Al-Hijr
﴿ كَذٰلِكَ نَسلُكُهُ فى قُلوبِ المُجرِمينَ ﴾
Thus do We insert it [i.e., denial] into the hearts of the criminals.
Tafsir of verse (13) from Surah Al-Hijr
﴿ لا يُؤمِنونَ بِهِ ۖ وَقَد خَلَت سُنَّةُ الأَوَّلينَ ﴾
They will not believe in it, while there has already occurred the precedent of the former peoples.
Tafsir of verse (14) from Surah Al-Hijr
﴿ وَلَو فَتَحنا عَلَيهِم بابًا مِنَ السَّماءِ فَظَلّوا فيهِ يَعرُجونَ ﴾
And [even] if We opened to them a gate from the heaven and they continued therein to ascend.
Tafsir of verse (15) from Surah Al-Hijr
﴿ لَقالوا إِنَّما سُكِّرَت أَبصٰرُنا بَل نَحنُ قَومٌ مَسحورونَ ﴾
They would say, "Our eyes have only been dazzled. Rather, we are a people affected by magic."
